Funding to Support Nature Recovery and Address Climate Change in Scotland
Capital grants for projects that support nature recovery and address climate change and/or its impacts.
The Scottish Government is providing £1 million to support a small project competitive fund to be distributed by Nature Scot.
The purpose of this fund is to support on the ground action that will address the biodiversity and climate crises by aiding nature restoration.
Public, private, and voluntary sector organisations as well as private individuals can apply for grants of up to £20,000.
All projects must demonstrate how the project will support nature recovery and address climate change and/or its impacts. Projects that also contribute to the green recovery are welcomed.
Projects need to address at least one of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity (IPBES) drivers of biodiversity loss:
- Land and sea-use change
- Direct exploitation of organisms
- Climate change and its impacts
- Pollution
- Invasive non-native specie
All projects and their activities must be completed and claimed by 31 March 2022.
Commenting, NatureScot Chief Executive Francesca Osowska said:
“More people than ever now understand and support the need to put nature at the heart of our recovery from the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. With COP15 and COP26 coming up, Scotland has a huge opportunity to address the many challenges and pressures that nature is facing.”
“These nature-based solutions will not only help us reach net zero by 2045, they’ll provide the nature-rich future we need for a healthier, more resilient Scotland.”
The deadline for applications is by midnight on 27 July 2021.
