UK Government Launches Business Growth Service to Simplify SME Support
The UK government has announced the forthcoming launch of the Business Growth Service, a nationwide initiative designed to provide streamlined support, advice, and resources to businesses across the country.
The service aims to address long-standing concerns from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) about the fragmented and complex nature of the current business support landscape. According to recent data, only 26% of UK SME employers sought external advice or information in the past year, highlighting the need for a more accessible system.
Set to launch in the first half of 2025, the Business Growth Service will feature a revamped digital platform and a partnership approach involving small businesses, local authorities, and devolved governments. Delivery will be locally led, ensuring the service meets the diverse needs of SMEs across the UK.
Inspired by international best practices, the Business Growth Service forms a key part of the forthcoming Small Business Strategy, which is central to the government’s plans to simplify investment and scaling processes for UK businesses. These initiatives are underpinned by the Government’s Industrial Strategy and Growth Mission, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the nation’s 5.5 million SMEs and self-employed individuals, who play a vital role in driving economic growth and innovation.
The strategy’s release in 2025 marks a significant step in equipping UK businesses with the tools needed to grow and thrive.
