£30m Decarbonisation Boost for UK’s Coastal Communities and Maritime Sector

Coastal communities and maritime businesses across the UK are set to benefit from £30 million in new funding aimed at advancing clean maritime technologies. The funding is part of the sixth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC6), which is supported by the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) programme.

The CMDC, delivered by Innovate UK (IUK), focuses on decarbonising the UK maritime sector through research and development. The latest round will fund feasibility studies and pre-deployment trials for clean maritime solutions such as electric propulsion, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, wind power, and other innovative technologies.

This sixth round of funding will be distributed between September 2025 and March 2026, bringing the total CMDC investment to £159 million since its launch. The programme aims to accelerate the commercialisation of green maritime solutions, fostering economic growth and job creation while supporting the UK’s broader decarbonisation goals.
