Funding for Timber Transport Projects in Scotland
A fund supporting the sustainable transport of timber in rural Scotland is now open for applications. The Strategic Timber Transport Fund aims to benefit local communities and the environment by facilitating efficient timber transport through innovative projects and partnerships.
The fund typically covers 50-70% of project costs, with the remaining funding provided by local authorities or forestry sector partners. Since its inception, the programme has supported nearly 400 projects with a total investment of £125 million, with a further 10 projects currently underway.
Eligible applicants include hauliers, forest owners, forest management companies, local community bodies, local authorities, national agencies such as Forestry and Land Scotland or NatureScot, enterprise agencies, and harbour or rail authorities.
Projects must be based in Scotland and focus on improving timber transport infrastructure.
