A Further 40 Neighbourhoods Join Expanded Pride in Place Programme

Around 380 areas are expected to benefit from Pride in Place funding

The UK Government has announced a major expansion of the Pride in Place Programme, with 40 new neighbourhoods across England set to receive funding to help transform local communities. The move strengthens the government’s long-term commitment to restoring pride in neighbourhoods by placing investment decisions directly in the hands of local people.

Under the expansion, residents in each selected area will be able to decide how up to £20 million is invested in their neighbourhood. Funding can support a wide range of activities, including revitalising high streets, protecting valued community spaces, and delivering local events and activities that bring people together.

The new package, worth up to £800 million, builds on the wider £5 billion Pride in Place Programme, which has already supported hundreds of communities to take greater control of their futures. The programme is designed not only to provide funding, but also to shift decision-making power to those who understand local challenges and opportunities best.

Neighbourhood Boards are now in place to oversee local allocations. Made up of residents and community representatives, these boards consult with local people and determine how funding is spent to deliver visible and lasting improvements.

Pride in Place focuses on long-term change, aiming to create a legacy of community-led action, delivery and empowerment that continues beyond the programme’s ten-year lifespan. By strengthening local leadership and participation, the initiative seeks to embed sustainable improvements in community life.

With this latest announcement, around 380 areas in total are expected to benefit from Pride in Place funding. The programme’s impact is intended to extend beyond individual neighbourhoods, supporting stronger, more cohesive communities and contributing to wider economic and social prosperity.
