Capital Funding for Community Food Organisations to Support Digital Inclusion in Wales

Capital grants to boost digital access for Welsh communities

Community food organisations in Wales can apply for capital funding to improve digital access for people using their services. The Minimum Digital Living Standard (MDLS) Pilot Capital Funding is provided and administered by the Welsh Government.

The support aims to help individuals experiencing food insecurity to become more confident in using digital tools. Funding is intended for capital costs that contribute directly to improved access, connectivity or digital engagement.

Eligible organisations include registered charities, community interest companies and other not-for-profit bodies that provide free or low-cost emergency food and essential items, such as food banks, community kitchens and food pantries.

Grants of up to £2,000 are available. Funding may be used for devices including tablets and laptops, as well as connectivity solutions such as Mi-Fi units or data SIMs. Examples of eligible activity include creating digital access points within community spaces, providing devices for lending or gifting schemes and improving Wi-Fi access for people who visit the organisation. Support can also be used for portable connectivity options for outreach work and rural areas.
