England’s Mayoral Authorities Invited to Apply for Renewable Energy Grants

The UK government has launched the £10 million Mayoral Renewables Fund (MRF) as part of the Great British Energy (GBE) Local Power Plan. The scheme will provide funding to Mayoral Strategic Authorities (MSAs) to support renewable energy generation on their estates.

The MRF aims to increase clean power capacity, strengthen public support for renewable initiatives and enhance energy resilience. It also seeks to improve equality in energy distribution and provide a framework for collaboration between GBE and regional authorities.

Eligible authorities can apply for funding of up to £700,000 for primary projects, with the option to submit up to two supplementary proposals. Projects must focus on renewable energy technologies, including solar, wind, hydropower, battery storage, microgrids and electric vehicle infrastructure with integrated storage or generation.

MSAs eligible for funding include Greater London, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Midlands, East Midlands, North Yorkshire, the North-East, Tees Valley, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, West of England, Greater Lincolnshire and Hull and East Yorkshire.
