Great British Energy Community Fund Reopens for South West Applications

Window Two of the Great British Energy Community Fund is now open for applications across the South West of England.

The funding is to help communities take the first step to develop projects that generate clean energy, which local people can benefit from.

A range of different organisation are eligible to apply for the fund including town and parish councils, community organisations, sports teams, charities and faith groups.

A total of £1 million is available for the South West.

Funding is provided in two stages:

  • Stage 1 – Feasibility grants of up to £40,000 can pay for professional support to scope project feasibility.
  • Stage 2 – Development grants of up to £100,000 are available for projects that have been found to be feasible, with a good chance of securing planning permission and being implemented, to cover more detailed investigation of the relevant technology, planning applications, advanced landowner agreements and development of a robust business case to attract sufficient investment.

Any project(s) developed through this funding should be designed to be at least 50% community owned. Applicants need to show that a good level of community engagement has been carried out, and that there is genuine community support for the project, including plans for ongoing community engagement.

This round will only accept ‘Type A’ applications for community energy asset project (such as renewable or low carbon energy, electric vehicles).

Please note grants are not available for capital works, equipment or service delivery, and cannot be used to cover costs incurred prior to the grant offer.
