IUK Launches Canada-UK Net Zero Value Chains Transportation Competition
UK registered businesses and Canadian SMEs can apply to collaborate on R&D projects that enable the transition to net zero on road, rail and sea.
Innovate UK (IUK) is investing in UK-Canadian collaborative innovation projects to enable a transition to net zero for the automotive, rail, or maritime transportation sectors.
This competition covers four themes in net zero on-vehicle or on-vessel technologies:
- Low and zero emission propulsion.
- Advanced sustainable materials and manufacturing.
- Highly disruptive technologies.
- Assistive technologies and control systems.
Proposals must demonstrate high potential for commercialisation, address a technological challenge and target large global markets. Technology transfer projects from other transport or energy sectors, or projects that span across multiple sectors are welcome.
Selected collaborative R&D projects will be eligible to receive funding from their respective national funding body. Up to £2 million and up to CA$3 million, an equivalent of £4 million in total, has been allocated to fund innovation projects in this competition. Funding will be in the form of a grant.
The total grant for all UK partners can be up to £300,000 for each application. A contribution of up to CA$500,000 will be provided to each eligible Canadian SME participating in the project.
This competition is open to Canada-UK collaborations only. UK registered businesses of any size must lead a project. They must partner with a Canadian SME, or be a Canadian SME, partnering with at least one grant claiming UK registered SME.
To collaborate with the lead, the organisation must be a UK registered business of any size, academic institution, research and technology organisation (RTO), Canadian SME or Canadian research organisation.
The deadline for UK applicants is Wednesday 29 June 2022 (17:00 BST).
