Paludiculture and Wetter Farming Fund

Closing Date: 21/08/2026

Funding supports projects developing paludiculture and wetter farming systems on lowland peat soils in England, with applications accepted from businesses, landowners, charities, academic institutions and public bodies, including local authorities and internal drainage boards, either individually or as consortium leads.

The Paludiculture & Wetter Farming Fund (PWFF) supports the development and testing of commercially viable paludiculture and wetter farming systems on lowland peat soils in England, helping to maintain productive agricultural use while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the long-term viability of farming on peatland.

The fund has two themes. Theme 1 supports the market readiness of the paludiculture crops Phragmites, Typha and Sphagnum, including harvesting and processing machinery, product development, market access and certification. Theme 2 supports wetter farming systems producing food for human consumption with an existing market, including peat assessment, hydrological design, water management and agronomic support at higher water tables. Machinery development and adaptation for wet peat soils may be supported under both themes.

Land-based projects, including machinery development, must take place on eligible lowland peat soils in England. Product development projects must be based in England, although paludiculture crops may be sourced from outside England where necessary.
