Grants are available for mainstream secondary schools, college, or other mainstream-based educational provision in England who work with young people with autism who are on the roll of a mainstream secondary school or college.
Through its funding, SCF supports schools, colleges and other mainstream-based provision to put activity in place, over and above that which is statutorily required, to enhance the life chances of autistic young people.
SCF wants to support young people with autism spectrum condition (ASC) who have been identified as missing out. Young people with autism who attend secondary school and college have been identified as a particularly vulnerable group. They may be academically able, but can struggle to cope in a mainstream environment. There are groups of autistic young people who have particular challenges, for example autistic girls, those at school/college transition points, students approaching exam time.
The funding is for activities that are creative, innovative and offer value for money which can be put in place quickly and have an impact as soon as possible.
