Transport for Greater Manchester Accepting Applications for Wheels and Walks Programme

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is offering grants of up to £5,000 for registered charities, voluntary and community groups, social enterprises, and educational or NHS Healthcare providers across Greater Manchester to deliver sustainable walking, wheeling, and cycling activities for local communities.

Through the Wheels and Walks Programme, successful applicants will receive a package of support, including funding, training and development, networking, and knowledge-sharing opportunities, signposting to other opportunities, and general support to deliver sustainable walking, wheeling, and cycling activities.

Funding can be used for:

  • The delivery of an activity that increases participation in active travel.
  • Community-based training, such as bike fix workshops and maintenance sessions.
  • The purchase of physical assets, such as cycles, trailers, storage, tools, walking equipment, and maps.
  • Developing creative assets, such as podcasts or community art projects.
  • Promotional activities, such as posters, leaflets, or videos.
  • Establishing a community bike tool library or installing a public cycle maintenance station.
  • Improving lighting or accessibility of a route, such as barriers, step-free access points, or braille signage.
  • Footpath or cycleway maintenance.
  • Creating a pocket park or active travel corridor.
  • Producing maps or trails that help or encourage people to access their green spaces.

The Programme will run from early 2025 to late 2026 across three Phases.
