Wales’ £1.5m World Cup Partner Support Fund Invites Applications
A new fund designed to support a range of organisations from culture, arts, sport and media for activities to celebrate Wales on a global stage is accepting applications.
Funding is available to organisations for projects and activities to promote Wales to a global audience as the nation celebrates participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The £1.5 million World Cup Partner Support Fund is being provided by Welsh Government to support organisations with delivering activities to celebrate Wales reaching the World Cup finals and to promote the nation worldwide.
Applications will be accepted from organisations from the culture, arts, sport and media sectors for projects such as:
- Delivering events to get young people involved in sport.
- Connecting with the Welsh diaspora.
- Helping football fans celebrate the sport in Wales and across the world.
Grants of up to £500,000 are available.
Announcing the fund, Welsh Government Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething, said:
“I am delighted to launch this £1.5 million fund which will help our partners to make the most of this exciting opportunity and boost Wales’ profile and deliver real benefits to Wales.
“Wales’ participation at global sporting events is one of the most fantastic chances to boost our country’s profile and show the world that Wales is an open, welcoming and ambitious country.
“The Cymru men’s football team’s participation in the FIFA World Cup is the most significant marketing and sports diplomacy opportunity ever presented to us, and we will absolutely make the most of it.”
The deadline for applications is 1pm on 26 August 2022.
