Zero Emission Flight Demonstrator Round 1
Closing Date: 01/04/2026
Grants for collaborative projects led by a UK registered business to demonstrate zero emission commercial-capable flight, with partners able to include UK registered businesses, academic institutions, public sector bodies and research and technology organisations.
The Zero Emission Flight Demonstrator Competition aims to demonstrate zero emission, commercial-capable flight in the UK. It supports proposals that progress the development of flight operations for zero emission aircraft, ground handling and infrastructure technologies needed to manage such aircraft, standards and the regulatory environment for zero emission commercial flights and the evidence base on the feasibility of zero emission aircraft for commercial aviation.
Projects should contribute to the development of aircraft operations that could in future provide commercial passenger or goods services on a broadly like-for-like basis to current air services.
All successful industrial research and feasibility study projects are expected to participate in the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Hydrogen Challenge regulatory sandbox initiative.
The Department for Transport and Innovate UK will review the scope of applications before they are submitted for assessment to ensure alignment with the objectives of the competition.
