Channel 4 Invites Submissions for Unscripted Format Development
Up to £100,000 available for proof of concept activity
Channel 4 is accepting submissions to its Unscripted Proof of Concept Fund, which provides development finance to independent production companies working on British unscripted television ideas. The support is intended to help refine and test large‑scale concepts at an early stage, with the aim of strengthening potential for future series commissions.
The broadcaster plans to back between three and five projects, with each selected concept receiving up to £100,000. The money is to be used for substantial development activity, allowing producers to research, test and shape formats before potential commissioning. In total, between £300,000 and £500,000 will be allocated during this round.
The support is open to UK independent production companies submitting ideas for returnable unscripted formats. Eligible genres include documentaries and factual entertainment, lifestyle, reality and entertainment, and specialist factual. Concepts should demonstrate broad audience appeal and be suitable for both linear broadcast and streaming platforms. At least one project supported through this process is expected to progress towards a full series commission.
Successful projects will be developed in collaboration with Channel 4 commissioners, with production funding for any series commissions to be provided separately.
