Funding Opportunity for UK Artists and Creatives to Engage with Responsible AI

Creative commission programme aims to boost public engagement

Funding is available to around seven UK-based creative practitioners through the Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) Creative Commissions programme. Delivered in partnership with Inspace and supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, each commission will provide between £8,000 and £12,000. Successful projects are to be presented at the Edinburgh Festivals in August 2027.

Applications are open to practitioners across the creative fields, including artists, designers, musicians, performers, architects, urban designers, craftspeople, artisans, writers and poets. Other eligible applicants may include graphic designers, illustrators, conservationists, dancers and visual artists. Applicants do not need an academic or research background. They are also not required to use AI technology in the proposed work, provided the project clearly addresses responsible AI.

The funding can cover practitioner and collaborator fees connected with delivering a commission. Eligible costs also include materials, equipment and fabrication required for the project. Support may additionally be used for transporting artwork.
