Innovate UK Launches Competition for Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing

Innovate UK has created a new competition to support the development and adoption of sustainable technologies in the manufacturing of medicines.

The competition aims to drive innovation across three key areas: green chemistry, circularity, and productivity and resource efficiency. Through these pillars, the initiative seeks to create environmentally sustainable manufacturing processes that lead to measurable improvements in productivity, waste reduction, emissions reduction, energy use reduction, or resource efficiency.

Up to £15 million of funding is available for industrial research and experimental development projects. Eligible projects must request a total grant funding between £500,000 and £2 million. Innovate UK plans to fund a diverse range of projects across various technologies, themes, locations, markets, technological maturities, and research categories.

The competition is open to collaborations only. Eligible lead organisations must be UK-registered and can include businesses of any size, research and technology organisations (RTOs), Catapult centres, not-for-profit organisations, public sector organisations, or charities. Each project must involve collaboration with other UK-registered entities and must include at least one grant-claiming micro, small, or medium-sized enterprise (SME).

The deadline for applications is 16 October 2024 (11:00).
