West Yorkshire Initiative Supports SMEs Tackling Health Challenges
Small and medium-sized enterprises in West Yorkshire can apply for grants to develop solutions that address health inequalities. The funding aims to support projects tackling social and environmental factors that impact health and wellbeing in the region.
The programme, Tackling Health Inequalities: The Mayor’s Big Ideas Challenge, is a £1 million initiative from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. It seeks to improve health outcomes by reducing disparities and promoting healthier lifestyles.
Funding includes twenty development grants of £20,000 for selected finalists and three final awards of £100,000 for further development and commercialisation. Successful applicants will also gain access to the University of Leeds’ Nexus non-resident membership programme, expert support and networking opportunities. Tailored assistance will be available on topics such as human-centred design, partnerships and investment readiness.
Eligible applicants include UK-registered SMEs with a significant presence in West Yorkshire, as well as alternative business models and registered charities engaged in economic activity. Proposals can address issues such as food, the environment, community engagement and healthcare access. Applications are open to individual organisations and consortia.
All solutions must be developed for and implemented within West Yorkshire.
