£2.2 Million Investment Announced to Support Welsh SME Manufacturers
Funding aims to modernise manufacturing and improve business performance
Welsh Government has announced £2.2 million of new investment to help small and medium-sized manufacturers modernise operations, increase productivity and boost sales. The funding is being delivered through the Tech Valleys Business Productivity Enhancement Programme, which supports engineering and manufacturing businesses to adopt new technology, improve efficiency and develop new products.
Eligible companies will receive a free business diagnostic and may then apply for a capital grant of between £10,000 and £50,000. Recipients will also access tailored support, including skills development and export advice. The programme has a recent track record of improving business performance; between 2020 and 2023, 83% of supported companies reported productivity gains, generating a collective £1.6 million in additional sales and strengthening their workforce through wage increases, upskilling and job retention.
The funding is aimed at helping firms adopt advanced technologies and digital processes to remain competitive and resilient in a changing marketplace. Companies across Wales have already benefited from similar support, including investments in computer‑controlled machinery, precision measuring technology and upgraded software, enabling them to streamline operations and improve product accuracy.
Further details on the programme, including application processes and support packages, are available from Welsh Government.
