Sport Wales’ Crowdfunding Scheme Supports Local Clubs and Groups

Funded by Sport Wales, ‘A Place for Sport’ helps not-for-profit sports clubs and community groups across Wales raise money through Crowdfunder to improve their facilities.

Successful applicants will receive match funding of up to 50% or 60% towards their crowdfunding target, up to a maximum of £15,000.

Not-for-profit sports clubs or community groups that are based in Wales and benefit people living in Wales can apply.

Priority will be given to projects that are in the most deprived communities to ensure that Sport Wales’ match investment reaches those most in need.

This will be organisations that do one or both of the following:

  • Deliver activity in areas experiencing social and economic deprivation, including rural communities.
  • Work with one or more of the following groups as a main focus:
    • Disabled people.
    • Low socio-economic groups.
    • Black, Asian and people with other ethnically diverse backgrounds.

Funding is intended help improve club facilities or to buy ‘off-field’ equipment.

Some examples include:

  • Fixing or upgrading changing rooms, toilets, or showers.
  • Renovating a clubhouse
  • Improving kitchen or bar areas
  • Adding bike racks or storage
  • Making space more accessible (with ramps or lifts)
  • Fixing fences, or adding stands and seating
  • Buying scoreboards or video equipment
  • Pitch maintenance tools.

Once groups meet their agreed funding goal and supporters target, Sport Wales could give:

  • 50% of their total – if the project is likely to succeed on Crowdfunder.
  • 60% of their total – if the project is situated in one of the 30% most deprived areas of Wales (according to WIMD) and/or targets underrepresented groups in sport.

Expressions of Interest are currently being accepted. There are no deadlines.
