Innovation Programme Invites Accessibility Solutions for Transport Sector (UK)

The National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) has opened its second round of the Scaling Innovation Programme, delivered in partnership with Connected Places Catapult. The programme aims to support projects that address barriers to travel for disabled people through vehicle stop design, travel assistance services and access to live travel information.

Funding is available in three phases.

  1. Phase 1 provides up to £10,000 to as many as 20 projects for planning and involving disabled people in project design.
  2. Phase 2 offers between £50,000 and £150,000 to 12-15 projects selected based on outputs from the planning stage, with support from the ncat consortium.
  3. Phase 3 provides £100,000 to £150,000 for 8-10 pre-demonstrator and trial projects progressing from Phase 2. The funding can be used to validate ideas, create prototypes, conduct testing and deliver live trials.

The programme is open to UK-registered organisations of any size, including public, private and third-sector bodies, academia, research and technology organisations, industry and charities. Both individual organisations and consortia may apply, but a lead organisation must be identified in each case.

Applicants must demonstrate alignment with the chosen challenge and show strong, specific plans for involving disabled people throughout the project. Trial projects must have a delivery partner confirmed.
