New Funding to Prevent Gambling Harms in Wales
WCVA is administering support for projects testing prevention approaches and strengthening capacity across Wales
Public Health Wales has launched a voluntary sector grant round focused on preventing gambling-related harms in Wales, with administration provided by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA).
The grant is intended to test and develop effective approaches to prevention, strengthen community, sector and system capacity and address the underlying drivers of gambling-related harms. It also aims to build the evidence base for prevention in Wales and embed lived experience and Welsh public health principles throughout activity.
Awards of up to £75,000 per year are available for up to two years.
Applicants must be constituted groups or organisations and be able to supply copies of governing documents. They must have an organisation or community group bank account and demonstrate suitable oversight and independence from a qualified and quorate Board with a minimum of three unrelated directors or trustees.
Support can be used for community awareness campaigns and education initiatives, as well as targeted prevention work with higher-risk or under-served groups. Eligible activity also includes community outreach, social action and resilience-building work and support for families and others affected by someone else’s gambling.
